Sonoma State University is proud to re-launch its Bachelor of Science in Physics, featuring a redesigned, student-centered curriculum available beginning Fall 2026. The Ongaro Family Scholarships & Awards

Ongaro Family

Each year, a student is chosen to receive a competitive award for students majoring in Physics. The Ongaro Family also offers several Green Science Awards, which are given for excellent work and presentation of research related to sustainability.

 

The Horace L. Newkirk Assistantship

Each year an outstanding physics student is selected by the faculty to work with a member of the department faculty or staff at a position which is both educational to the student and useful to the department.

 

The Bryant and Diane Hichwa Summer Research Awards

Hichwas

Each summer, research stipends will be available to outstanding students, who are selected by the department faculty to work in a position that is both educational to the student and useful to the department.

 

McQuillens

Between 2002 and 2019, an upper division physics student was selected by the faculty to conduct research with a member of the department faculty during the summer. The students were paid a stipend provided through an annual donation by Michael and Sheila McQuillen.
