Advising
General Info For All Students:
Welcome! If you're already a major you will have been assigned an advisor. If you are interested in the Physics and/or Astronomy programs, and don't already have an assigned advisor (or don't know who they are) please talk with any Physics & Astronomy Permanent Faculty. We are happy to help!
Your academic path is important to us. You and your advisor will be plan your course of studies. Start by navigating the Advising subcategories on the left for more in depth information. We recommend checking in with you advisor at least once per semester. Reach out to them to schedule a meeting time or just stop by their office hours.
Please Note: At the start of each semester, Physics & Astronomy holds a department social where students can meet faculty, staff, and other students in the department in a casual low pressure event. We strongly recommend you attend, plus there is free food.
First-Time, First Year Students:
If you are considering physics or astronomy, please navigate to our Prospective Student guide. During Summer Orientation, you will register for your Fall classes, and get your questions answered by advisors in your major. Before classes begin, you will be assigned an advisor who is a full-time faculty member in the Physics and Astronomy Department. Please look for your advisor in your MySSU or Loboconnect account, then check Our Faculty & Staff page for contact information and office hours. You are welcome to change your advisor if you prefer someone else.
Transfer Students:
Transfer students must attend Transfer Orientation. Before classes begin, you will be assigned an advisor who is a full-time faculty member in the Physics and Astronomy Department. Please look for your advisor in your MySSU or Loboconnect account, then check Our Faculty & Staff for contact information and office hours. You are welcome to change your advisor if you prefer someone else.
