Suggested Minors for Department Majors
If you are interested in a different STEM minor that could pair well with physics, and have questions, please review their website and the catelogue. We would also recommend discussing this with your advisor as they can offer helpful information/suggestions.
- Chemistry in Catalog -- (Chemistry Minor)
- Total units needed for the minor: 25. Up to six units in CHEM 115A/CHEM 115B may count toward the General Education requirements in area B including the laboratory requirement. CHEM 125A/CHEM 125B may be substitute for the combined requirement of CHEM 115A/CHEM 115B and CHEM 255.
- Computer Science in Catalog -- (Computer Science Minor)
- Total units needed for the minor: 20. Approval of the Computer Science Department should be obtained by the junior year in order to plan the minor properly. All courses submitted toward minor requirements in the Computer Science Department must be taken for a letter grade (A-F). This does not apply to courses that are challenged.
- Electrical Science in Catalog -- (Electrical Science Minor)
- Total units needed for the minor: 14. All Electrical Engineering courses require a grade of C or better to pass.
- Mathematics in Catalog -- (Mathematics Minor)
- Total units needed for the minor: 20. These must include MATH 161 (or its equivalent) and at least 6 units of upper-division mathematics courses. Approval of the Mathematics and Statistics Department should be obtained by the junior year in order to plan the minor properly.
- Note that as a physics major you are likely to have already, or plan to complete all but the 6 upper division mathematics requirements, so getting a minor in math can be as easy as taking 2 extra math classes.
