Hogan Wins Newkirk
Assistantship
Daniel Hogan was selected this year to be the second holder of
the Horace L. Newkirk
Student Assistantship. He has been learning about equipment
while assisting Steve Anderson with the Departments
demonstrations and laboratory setups.
In 1999 Dan will graduate with a BA in Physics and an area of concentration in Art. He attended UC Irvine for a year before transferring to Sonoma State University as a Sophomore. While working his way through college, his jobs have ranged from teachers assistant to cook at Sonoma States Childrens School, to cashier. He is pursuing a career in astronomy or a related field. He reports that if he had spare time he would enjoy drawing, reading and writing.
The Newkirk Assistantship was endowed by his relatives and friends in memory of the retired physicist who attended What Physicists Do for many years.
